Who Lumberg Is

The Lumberg Elementary School was named for Harry H. Lumberg, who donated the land that the school and playground are located on. Harry came to Colorado from Denmark in 1886 at age 14. He moved to Edgewater in 1906. The school for grades K-6 was constructed in 1955 and by 1961 had already added an extra classroom wing and a gym. From time to time temporary buildings were moved in as enrollment surged. A library was also added. In conjunction with the City of Edgewater's Park and Recreation Plan, the playground was totally re-landscaped in the mid 1980's.

Now in 2024, Lumberg is home to a diverse group of students and staff.  We are a PreK-6th grade school that integrates elements of EL Education Learning to create an exceptional student learning experience with a whole child focus.  It defines our school climate and culture and grounds us in the decisions we make daily.  Lumberg continues to be a school within a school.  We are a One Way Dual Language school with a DL classroom for every grade, including our PreK.  We also are a Talent pool school, where we provide extended learning opportunities for over 25 students demonstrating giftedness in one or more academic areas.  Finally, through our 21st Century grant, we are able to provide STEAM opportunities for students after school, free of charge.
